Young Rodney

We have a new family member. Introducing the lovely Rodney.

For those who don’t know about the welfare system for dogs in the UK, it works like this. All stray dogs are picked up by dog wardens. They are taken to a local kennel appointed by the council, which then pays seven days boarding for that stray.

If they are not claimed, and no one saves them, they are then (by law) destroyed. This is happening as a matter of course all over the UK every week. We have wonderful people called pound pullers who have connections with these kennels and visit them regularly to see which dogs are close to their last day. These dogs are known as poundies. Pound pullers do their very best to save lives but sadly so many dogs are bred, sold, bought and discarded in the UK that rescues are overflowing and many dogs do not make it to sanctuary.

One of those pound pullers is Niall Lester of New Hope Rescue – when we have fulfilled our obligations to local dogs that other rescues refuse – we help Niall whenever we can.

Rodney was due to die and Niall shared him amongst trusted rescues hoping for a place.

He is now with us. Rodney is a baby, likely under 12 months. Affectionate, eager to please, likes dogs and entirely house trained. In short a sweetie.

Welcome Rodders!!

Young Mac

Young Mac is settling in, missing family a bit but really enjoying his new raw diet. He is a really good natured dog, happy around live stock, loves people and will find a canine friend hopefully in this rescue tomorrow. This pup is going to do so well.

What a star!! Under 12 months, great temperament but for genuine reasons could not stay in the home. Isn’t he fabulous?

We will tell you more about this lovely boy once he has settled in.

Frankie

Frankie is going to live out the rest of his life as part of the house pack, so isn’t up for rehoming.

Meet Frankie, a 4 yr old neutered male Staffie crossbreed. He lives in the home pack and has lots of friends.

Frankie is good with dogs and all people, but not lived with cats. Although he is so gentle, a brave cat would find him a pushover, I think.

He is affectionate, loves to play ball and is always up for a cuddle. Soon after arriving with us, Frankie developed a degenerative eye problem which will in time mean that he loses his sight altogether.

He copes extremely well as his sight has dimmed over years and he has got used to it.

Frankie also starred in our greetings card shoot.

Ella

Ella is a 4 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier who has been with us a while.

Ella is a high energy dog, affectionate, but in need of firm boundaries. She is reactive to unknown dogs, but can make dog friends.

ELLA’S REQUIREMENTS;

  • A breed experienced home.
  • She cannot live with cats or children.
  • Exercise on lead only.

Tommy

Despite the fact that he arrived in a dreadful state, he became an absolutely wonderful dog whilst he was in here and taught Beryl how to do “dogs” which she didn’t know how to do before he arrived.

Tommy now lives in an extended family in Plymouth and he is Buster’s best mate.

______________________________________________________

This boy came in from the police on Jan 8th, very under weight, terrified, untrusting of people and willing to bite if he had to.

He has blossomed into a sweet natured, happy dog. Friendly chap, who now thinks humans might be OK.

Dogs are amazing. He loves cuddles from me and is fast learning to trust strangers.

Tommy needs time for company and space. He’s a big boy. Loyal and gentle, and is totally dog and cat friendly.

The boy is now doing brilliantly – so much so, I need to watch his weight!

Tommy is a very balanced, chilled staffie, 3yrs, neutered. He loves attention, is polite and sociable with other dogs and smiles all the time.

Share this lovely boy for his future.

Mia

This is Mia, an 8 year old Border Collie that was taken to the vets for destruction as owner going abroad. She is currently in foster and in our care.

Mia is sweet with people, extremely obedient, loves human company and will make a great companion. She is obese and on a weight loss programme. Mia is excellent in the house, can be left and does not destroy.

She is however unsocialised with dogs and reacts on the lead. Mia does not like passing other dogs on lead but she does so without too much fuss when asked. We are muzzle training and will begin the process of teaching her to accept the proximity of other dogs at a distance.

Experienced owner and ‘only animal’ home required for Mia. She has a lot to give and will make a great companion.

Mia needs to be an only dog and not living in town where she will constantly come across other dogs. Although eight years old she is quite strong.

Please share our girl for her home, she doesn’t ask for much and gives so much in return.

Dexter

Dexter arrived at 12 months with extreme behavioural problems and, wonderfully, he is now successfully placed in a home that completely understands his needs.

___________________________

Dexter would love to be your wet nose Wednesday. He is our foster dog who is now ready for his forever home through Devon Dog Behaviour Rehab and Rehome.

Dexter is a little over two years old and a first cross Border Collie Labrador. He is a very special boy who has already been on a long journey.

We are trying to get him out to the public eye to find his home.

Dex joined us a little over a year ago. he had trust issues with humans, ran out of the room if you rustled a newspaper and could not cope with people approaching him to show affection. He also lacked social skills with dogs and got very anxious travelling in a car.

Dexter has spent his time with us in foster with two adults and two other dogs. His foster carers have had dogs before but they are by no means professional – an ordinary home where Dexter has learnt to trust, play with other dogs and travel calmly in a car. It has taken patience and time to help this boy to trust people again and cope with their unpredictable ways, but he has come so far.

This boy is affectionate and intelligent. He has excelled at trick training classes and still enjoys agility. Now he needs a permanent home where he can thrive and build on what he has learned. He needs a confident, experienced, adult home, ideally with another dog. Please share this boy on every page you can think of. He is so deserving and gives the utmost loyalty to his family.

Young Ronnie

Young Ronnie is settling in well, as you might imagine after a week alone he is anxious and on the go. Had a job to get a pic at all but he is sweet, affectionate and keen to please.

Also a really sweet natured little Staffy. 18 months old.

Happy to report that young Ronnie has left us for his new home.

He is much loved and has finally found someone who will look after him in the way he deserves.

Everyone who meets this lovely and previously neglected boy, is charmed by him. He is a pocket sized little Staffie with a big heart!

Good luck, Ronnie!

Neville

Neville has now found his new forever home.

Neville is a very sweet natured Bull breed cross, brilliant with all people and children, a perfect companion, gentle and loving.

Neville will happily walk past dogs on lead but cannot cope if they rush up to him – he was frightened early on and will defend himself. He needs to be an only dog.

Megan

After two long years with me, Megan has landed on her paws! She lives on the Moors and has her very own person who is a gardener and she spends her days out and about and having a wonderful life.

_______________________________________________

Megan is the most loving, gentle Staffy, come to us from a poor background, but so gentle with people you would never know.

She is around five yrs and also needs to be an only dog, no cats. Megan lives to chase her ball and have cuddles from her humans. She will happily walk in good weather but if it rains she would much prefer to stay in her bed.

Megan does not destroy, can be left for reasonable times and is happy to pass dogs on walks but must be lead walked.

Sweet girl with a lot to give and asks for very little in return, just a cuddle and a ball thrown.

Paddy

Paddy left us for New Hope Animal Sanctuary last year and has since found a new home to call his own.

This is Paddy. He is a 3 yr old male, neutered male Shih Tzu. Paddy is intelligent and likes to play, he is good with other dogs.

An experienced owner is needed as this boy was spoilt and will show low level aggression if not getting his own way. Paddy grew up with young children. This rescue will provide ongoing support to any new owner.

Paddy has learnt a lot in a short time, we now need an owner to help us finish the job.

This is a highly intelligent breed that needs firm boundaries of behaviour. Paddy lacked this and learnt to use aggression against his inexperienced human family when he did not want to do something. He was indulged and allowed to rule the roost.

Paddy has come a very long way with me and is ready for an experienced owner who can continue my work. I will provide behavioural back up as long as necessary.

In the right hands he is a charming, clever little dog. he loves other dogs and walking. Paddy does not need cuddles so if that is what you want, he is not for you.

A proper little character!

Please share for an experienced home. Can live with other dogs.
